Mir gefällt dieses lied so gut. G. Scott-Heron bezieht sich hier auf das musikalische Erbe Schwarzer Menschen die unter dem Terror der Sklaverei überlebt haben. Von den Arbeitsliedern über  BLUES bis hin zu JAZZ , SOUL, ROCK und HIPHOP. Er sprícht für die, die beraubt von allen möglichkeiten,  wirklich nicht viel anderes hatten,  und trotz aller einschränkung welten in ihrer musik kreierten. Er fragt sich : "Ist das Jazz?" Lassen sich solch beseelte künstlerische Entäußerungen wirklich unter solchen Etiketten einpferchen?  Für ihn sind die Werke der wirklichen Erneuerer in der Kunst nicht in getrennte Kategorien zu fassen.
